 PLACES TO GO THRIFTING

  • SAVERS  With over 250 stores, Savers has been a leader in taking the Thrift Store and melding into a Target-like experience
  • SALVATION ARMY Has approximately 1500 stores, most every community has one within driving distance.
  • GOODWILL INDUSTRIES Not only sells on-line, but has more than 2500 stores in the US and Canada.
  • SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL These thrift stores have a presence in many states, though not all (sorry Nevada).

Many other charities offer single stores too numerous for here, but we will list more thrift stores that have multiple locations soon.

Three Facebook Group Members turned $52 into $3500!

One week in the Thrifting-With-The-Boys Facebook Group, three members shared experiences of great purchases which converted to big money quickly:
A turned $10 in camera equipment into  $900
B turned a $40 old car headlamp find into $1400
C turned a $2 book discovery quickly into $1200
While not every item shared in the Facebook Group is a score of the magnitude described here, but everyday members share great tips, ask for help, and boast cool finds. This forum is free, but only open to those who are into thrifting or aspiring to do this. We welcome participants who join to share and educate as well as to learn. Ask to join the Thrifting-With-The-Boys Facebook Group today!

 WAYS TO KNOW VALUE

When you thrift shop for yourself, it's easy to understand the value of something you purchase since you will use or be able to wear the items you select. Discovering what is valuable or desired by others when your intent is to resell, may require a combination of skills. Often the best measure of worth is just experience which lets you know an item will sell for more than your price. Hopefully much more. However, a field education is acquired after many years and even then is sometimes not enough. That is why it is paramount to have access to research and the ability to quickly make decision on when to buy and more importantly, when to pass.

In order to help make buying and selling decisions, we suggest eBay Research by Terapeak. Terapeak has made a huge difference in knowing which items are worth purchasing to list for sale on eBay. The historical information that is provided is so much more extensive than what is provided when using eBay alone for research. Another way to examine value is to carry an array of books. For example here are some 2012 Price Guide Books that you may find beneficial depending on your niche. These often don't have the satisfaction as being able to grab real-time results, but the books can provide much more info on items that may be more rare or details about fakes and other identifying features.

FUN THINGS TO DO

Jason and Bryan not only enjoy thrifting, they have fun and take time to enjoy life.  Whenever Bryan heads to Vegas, Jason takes him to his favorite joint: Frankie's Tiki Room located a little bit off The Strip. Always a fun place to get together away from the enormous places on the strip.
